My Button Collection

I love tumblr!

It’s such a great supportive community, especially with all us weight loss and fitness bloggers.

Hey guess what, i only started this blog yesterday and i got 50 followers already, pretty cool :)

Hope everyone had/is having a happy and healthy day today!

So here’s a thought, a lot of are used to beating ourselves up over our bodies, feeling low, or focusing on the things we don’t like about how we look. How about whoever reads this, for the next couple of minutes sit back and think about the things we DO like about our bodies and ourselves instead, and congratulate ourselves for every healthy, caring thing we did for our bodies today.

Today’s stuff

Food

Breakfast: errrrm….didn’t get up in time. Oops!

Lunch: a bowl of lentil & tomato soup (see my recipe!), and a couple of crispbread slices with low-fat cream cheese.

Dinner: A mug of soup and a bowl of strawberries.

Drinks: water, green tea

Snack: ok confession time, i had a ben&jerrys peanut butter cookie dough ice cream stick when i went into town earlier. It was sooooo good but sooooo unhealthy. Hence the mug of soup and strawberries for dinner.

Exercise

So first thing when i got up i did the 4 min intense workout thing. Then i walked home from uni with a bag of books and a bag of food shopping (about 20 mins). Also mopped the floors in my kitchen and corridors in my student house. Later will be going for a walk in the forest next to my house, and situps or something as well.

OH and now i’m gonna bake! Uh ohhhh. Not for me though, tomorrow i’m going on holiday with a friend and his family, so baking them a cake and some bread to say thanks. I think i might allow myself one slice of bread when it comes out of the oven though, i know how good it is and depriving myself just doesn’t work.

ABC diet etc

I’m honestly baffled why anyone thinks this is a good way to lose weight :s it’s so unhealthy, and starving yourself surely means you’ll just put the weight back on when you start eating properly again. I just don’t get it tbh….i feel so sorry for girls that feel like they have to put them through this kind of thing to be happy/good enough/liked/whatever.

Strawberries really are awesome :) which is why i’m eating a bowl of them right now omnomnomnom

Recipe: cinnamon apple muesli

This breakfast is so yum and packed with energy, especially good for when you have a long day or a big workout. The yogurt adds in some protein too. My Swedish friend showed me how to make this, living in Sweden you really can’t escape the muesli :p

Ingredients

  • one apple (pick your favourite kind)
  • half a cup of your favourite muesli (try get one with no added sugar or salt, just oats/whole grains and nuts is best)
  • 1 cup low fat natural yogurt (be very careful of added sugar in low fat yogurt!)
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp honey

How to make it

  • grate the apple into your bowl.
  • add all the other ingredients and mix together. Sprinkle extra cinnamon on top if you like it!

This is also even more delish if you happen to have blueberries around that you can add in. YUM! And who says muesli has to be boring :p

This is a great workout to do when you first wake up in the morning or right before you go to bed(:
Click for the video!

So i did this workout first thing this morning to kick-start my day. Harder than you’d think for 4 minutes. By the end i was sweaty and out of breath! I’m gonna do this at least 4 times a week (as well as other exercise), and see how i improve over time, like a challenge. It’s only 4 MINUTES, less time than it takes to make a cup of tea, so NO EXCUSES!

Recipe: spicy tomato and lentil soup

(not my image)

This soup is delicious, chunky, filling, and super healthy. I like to have a batch of it in the fridge for when i’m stuck on what healthy meal to make, or when i just want a quick healthy snack. The recipe is so simple, and you can modify it how you want. Add in whatever veg you like (i sometimes add a red bell pepper), or add beans for more protein. I like it spicy but you can take away the chili or add extra to your taste.

Ingredients

  • An onion
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 2 carrots
  • 2 sticks celery
  • one red chili
  • 2 tsp olive oil
  • small mug of red lentils
  • can/carton chopped tomatoes
  • 2 tsp low-sodium vegetable stock powder
  • paprika

How to make it

  • heat oil in large pan
  • finely chop onion and celery and add to pan
  • peel and finely chop carrots and add to the pan
  • keep stirring!
  • de-seed and finely chop chili, finely chop garlic and add to the pan
  • when all the veg are smelling good and looking slightly browned, tip in the chopped tomatoes, a couple of cups of water, the stock powder and paprika.
  • stir and bring to a simmer then add the lentils. They should take about 15 mins to cook, season to taste, then your soup is ready!

Its filling enough to eat alone, but if you want something to dunk in it, crusty wholemeal bread or crispbread is great.
